Words in Context

Words in Context Practice for the Digital SAT

Words in Context questions ask you to choose the word that best completes or matches a short passage. The right answer is usually the word that fits the logic, tone, and exact meaning of the sentence.

What to look for in the sentence

  • Contrast words: however, although, nevertheless, but.
  • Cause and effect: because, therefore, as a result.
  • Tone: positive, negative, skeptical, neutral, or formal.
  • Precision: two answers may be close, but only one fits the sentence exactly.
If you miss a context question, do not just memorize the correct answer. Review why the other choices were too broad, too positive, too negative, or logically off.
